zachary veitch, ms | Data analyst
Zac is a social researcher interested in using quantitative methods to answer interdisciplinary research questions concerning health, economic, and policy outcomes. A lifelong Chicagoan, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Pitzer College in Claremont, CA, where he studied economics and wrote his honors thesis on causal effects of music streaming on the music industry. He received his Master of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he studied Policy Economics and specialized in Advanced Econometrics and Public Economics. At UIUC, Zac gained specialized training in statistical research methods, causal inference, and quantitative policy evaluation, and conducted individual research projects predicting opioid mortality rates in the United States and investigating how they relate to legalized cannabis dispensing. His research interests shifted towards public health while working on a COVID-19-related research study at the University of Illinois Chicago, where he served as a Research Venue Coordinator, and witnessed the profound healthcare and health education disparities faced by Chicago’s marginalized communities. After finishing his MS studies, Zac worked as an Empirical Research Fellow at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. At Kellogg, he assisted Marketing Department faculty professors by developing statistical programming scripts and providing descriptive and econometric analyses on a variety of marketing science topics.
Zac joined CAHE in 2023 to serve as a Data Analyst. In this role, Zac works with the research team to provide data management and statistical analyses in support of scientific publications, dissemination to community-based organizations, and grant proposals.
Outside of the office, Zac enjoys playing pickup basketball, spending time with his family, and swimming in Lake Michigan.
